As part of our commitment to improving reliability and performance for our customers, we are migrating accounts on our shared hosting server ns8005.hostgator.com and ns8006.hostgator.com to a brand new more powerful server.
Customers on this server may have noticed less than ideal performance and reliability recently and it is for this reason we have decided to move everyone to upgraded hardware.
We only anticipate minor interruption to service while this migration takes place but as it involves a change of IP address there are several things to be aware of.
Firstly, if the name servers for the domain name(s) on your hosting account are not set to hostgator name servers, the DNS records will not be updated automatically. In which case you will need to update your DNS records manually via your DNS provider. The new nameserver will be alrotec. If your account is assigned a dedicated IP and your name servers do not point to ours, please contact us.
Secondly, it is important to note that the new server is running PHP 5.6 by default. Some older PHP software may have issues running on this version of PHP but fortunately there is the ability to select an older PHP version just for your account. This can be done in Your Admin Control Panel Dashboard.
Also the new server is running MariaDB 10.0 which no longer supports pre-MySQL-4.1 style passwords. If you connect to a database with a username for which the password has not been changed in the last few years, you may need to set the password again so that it is stored in the new format. Otherwise that user will not be able to authenticate on the new server and you will get connection errors.
